Linaro wishes to provide Tier 1 support for Java on ARM's new 64 bit architecture. We are implementing this via a collaborative effort on OpenJDK 8 http://openjdk.java.net/projects/aarch64-port This project is now nearing FCS release and we are looking for a suitably qualified, self motivating engineer to drive this through to completion, continue optimization of the Hotspot VM and other components of a Java server system such as Hadoop to deliver top quality support for Java on modern 64-bit ARM systems. This provides and exciting opportunity to work on leading edge hardware and software to develop the next generation of server systems. You must enjoy the challenge of working on an entire system from debugging the kernel to developing optimization for the ARM64 JIT to developing native code for Hadoop or other systems level software. We understand that no one individual will possess the entire range of skills required to drive this project forwards, therefore you must be capable of working with the wide diversity of global talent within Linaro and its partners to deliver solutions across the entire system. You must analyze problems and communicate them concisely to obtain the best results from this pool of talent. You will be working in an open source community with people of diverse skills, many of whom are contributing their time voluntarily. You must show sensitivity to the community at all times to encourage and foster the development of the community.

Do you think inside the box or outside the box? What if there wasn't a box ... ? Linaro's IT Services Department was formed at the end of last year to provide the expertise required to deliver the infrastructure and services required by the engineers around the world that are working together to define the future of Linux on ARM. We use Amazon Web Services heavily rather than conventional server rooms or data centers. We use Ubuntu as the foundation, with Open Source tools such as git, OpenLDAP, Etherpad Lite, and some non-Open Source products like Crowd, JIRA and Confluence from Atlassian. Our remit is to define our remit! We're looking for a new member of the team to work with the existing members to take the infrastructure to the next step and beyond. We want to build out the resiliency, we want to introduce automation and we want to find new ways of improving productivity before the users think of it for themselves. We've got lots of exciting ideas and we want to find someone who can not only help us deliver on those ideas but also bring some of their own to the party. If you are excited about working with Open Source tools, delivering scalable, resilient infrastructure or want to work in an environment where you can help form the future, why not get in touch?
