ST-Ericsson introduced the Snowball developer board to drive the software innovation for Android, Linux and Linaro based embedded devices on the NovaTM A9500 platform. ST-Ericsson's Nova application processor family is taking the mobile computing experience to the next level by offering a combination of high performance mobile processing, advanced graphics cores and powerful multimedia at extreme power efficiency. Snowball combines ST-Ericsson's Nova A9500 featuring dual-core Cortex-A9 at 1 Ghz and Mali-400 GPU with GPS and advanced connectivity plus a complete set of STMicroelectronics sensors - 3D gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer, barometer - in a small form factor battery-operated device.
Designed by Calao, with the low-level software developed by Linaro, Snowball was conceived to put sophisticated mobile technologies within reach of a broad community of professional developers, so that they can create and perfect their apps for a wide range of devices before they are launched.
Snowball software is available as open source code through the Igloo community. This allows developers to optimize their apps at every level of the software stack ensuring best possible performance and user experience. Learn more

The Texas Instruments BeagleBoard-xM delivers ARM ® Cortex TM -A8 MHz at 1 GHz and extra memory with 512MB of low-power DDR RAM. This open hardware design improves upon the laptop-like performance and expandability, while keeping at hand-held power levels. Direct connectivity is supported by the on-board four-port hub with 10/100 Ethernet, while still maintaining the very small 3.25" × 3.25" footprint. Some possible applications are web services, 3D-gaming, 3D-UI and Linux kernel and driver development.
Also available from Texas Instruments is the first open OMAP™ 4 mobile software development platform. It is powered by the Dual-core ARM® Cortex™-A9 MPCore™ with Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) at 1 GHz each. This allows for 150% performance increase over previous ARM Cortex-A8 cores. The PandaBoard with the OMAP 4 processors is specially designed to be used as a platform for mobile software development such as manufacturers of Smartphones and other mobile devices.

Freescale recently announced it’s first low-cost board based on its i.MX53 ARM® CortexTM- A8 processor family, called the i.MX53 Quick Start board. Designed for an optimal out-of-box experience, the platform includes a 1GHz i.MX53 applications processor with 1 GB of DDR3 memory and an extensive set of peripherals
This is the first board of this kind offering a SATA connector for high performance I/O, making it perfect to develop high performance, low power multimedia and data processing system prototypes. The 3-axis accelerometer will allow development of tablet and smartphone designs (for example) and with JTAG, a DB-9 serial port and an expansion connector to interface with the outside world.
