Background
I started working with microprocessors when the Intel 8080A was a hot, new chip. My first full-time job was developing process control systems, where I learned the importance of reliable software: you don't three-finger-salute a steel mill! I developed kernel-level software (device drivers, network stacks) for DEC operating systems (RSX, OpenVMS) for 18 years before switching to open-source systems. For the last 13 years I've worked with Linux and BSD internals, doing mostly device interface, board bring-ups, and the like on a variety of architectures in embedded environments. I also teach device drivers, board support package development, and embedded Linux and Android application development for several clients at locations around the world. Rumor has it that there are videos of my presentations at the 2009 Embedded Linux Conference on the net. As a hobby I tinker with FPGAs, mostly in Verilog, and am building a replica Intel 4004 CPU using discrete components.
