Background

After dismissing bartender and guitarist as career options, I started working as a freelance software engineer building database backends for web sites. During this time, I got heavily involved with development of PHP itself, mainly working on the Interbase/Firebird DB interface module but also fixing 64-bit and other low level issues in the Zend core.  When I finished university, I took a job with Philips Research, working in the Storage Systems & Applications group, which at the time was focusing mainly on file systems for multimedia applications. Among other things, I worked on hacking both Windows MCE and MythTV, and spent time doing research into file system fragmentation (OLS 2006)  I joined TomTom in 2009, doing maintenance on their 2.6.13 kernel. Over the course of 2009, I took over the platform security project, designing and implementing everything from signed kernel modules and file systems to ARM7 crypto gadgets that are used on the factory line for digital signing.
