PandaBoard (Texas Instruments)

Pandaboard.org offers accessible, well-equipped open source development tools based on TI’s smart multicore OMAP™ 4 platform. The low-cost boards are power- and performance-optimized for mobile software development. Recently, PandaBoard was named the only open source development tool supported in the Android Open Source project running Android 4.0 (“Ice Cream Sandwich”).

PandaBoard includes an OMAP4430 processor equipped with two ARM® Cortex™-A9 processors (running at 1 GHz each—a 150% performance increase over ARM Cortex-A8 cores). This platform delivers symmetric multiprocessing performance as well as rich multimedia and 3D graphics capabilities. The board also allows for WLAN and Bluetooth® connectivity technologies while packing HDMI, Digital Video Interface (DVI) and DPI support.

The next-generation PandaBoard ES is the industry’s first OMAP4460 processor-based board, running its two Cortex-A9 cores up to 1.2 GHz each. Adding to the original PandaBoard specs, new features include a SysBoot switch for the manual switch of boot order and Display Serial Interface (DSI) support. Notably, it is one of the only open mobile development platforms offering Bluetooth® low energy technology hardware support. PandaBaord ES is software compatible with PandaBoard, easing project migration from one board to the next.
